One atmosphere, several observing scales.
The composition of the atmosphere is shaped by emissions, chemical transformation, turbulent exchange and transport. In Alpine terrain these processes interact particularly strongly because the urban surface, valley circulation, forests and the free troposphere are closely coupled.
Our research therefore combines high-resolution chemical instruments with micrometeorological observations, ground-based remote sensing, field campaigns and long-term operation at the Innsbruck Atmospheric Observatory.
Joint observations connect atmospheric composition, turbulent exchange and transport into a consistent process understanding.
