Atmospheric columns
Total columns of selected trace gases, particularly NO₂ and O₃.
Remote sensing & reference observations
Pandora spectrometers connect ground-based long-term observations with air-quality monitoring and the validation of satellite trace-gas products.
A global reference network
Long, well-maintained and homogeneously calibrated ground-based remote-sensing records have long provided an essential reference for satellite ozone columns. Comparable global networks for other satellite-derived trace gases such as NO₂ or HCHO were missing.
The Pandonia Global Network addresses this gap with fiducial reference measurements. Its main instruments are Pandora and Pandora-2S spectrometers observing direct-sun and sky spectra.
Measurement principle & products
Calibration, standardised processing and shared quality control make measurements from different sites comparable.
Total columns of selected trace gases, particularly NO₂ and O₃.
Ground-based reference values for spatially and temporally matched satellite overpasses.
Long-term records complement in-situ observations with the full atmospheric column.
Harmonised calibration, processing, metadata and data dissemination.
PGN at the IAO
The APC group collaborates with LuftBlick on calibration, operation and scientific development of the network. Innsbruck adds a demanding environment shaped by a city, valley circulations and mountain topography.
Current Pandora-2S products include total columns of NO₂ and O₃. The programme links remote sensing with urban air-quality research and long-term observatory operation.
Network partners
The network connects international partners in calibration, operation, data processing and scientific use.
Official information, station overviews and available data products are provided through the Pandonia Global Network.
